Kuruvungna Springs Foundation
State Historic Indian Village site
The Gabrielino/Tongva Indians are the original inhabitants of the Los Angeles
Basin. The Kuruvungna Springs at University High School was once a thriving, self-contained village site and home
of the Tongva people. This oasis in the middle of a concrete jungle is a symbol of the environment prior to mission
contact wiht the native Indians.
It is the goal of the Gabrielino/Tongva Springs Foundation to work together with the community to preserve and
protect one of the last natural historical landmarks and sacred sites of our people. We invite you to participate
in our activities and be a part of preserving an important piece of the history of Los Angeles.
Open First Saturday of Each Month, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
You can help develop this area for the future by donating to the BUILDING

A CD-ROM offering a virtual tour of a California Mission is now ready for distribution. The
program, developed by Robert Hoffman at San Diego State University, is designed for the 4th-grade level and includes
dozens of manipulable objects, "interviews" with Mission Indians and Spaniards, demonstrations of 18th-
and 19th-century crafts, and authentic Mission era texts and music.
A website mystery.sdsu.edu provides descriptive
information, lesson plans, and an order form.
